China Pesticide Technical Price Report (2013-2016)

Prices of pesticides have been falling continuously in China since 2014. According to the Chinese Industrial Association’s price index, prices of herbicides and insecticides presented significant downward trends while fungicide prices managed to remain reasonably stable in 2014 and 2015.

According to Publisher’s price monitoring of 52 major pesticide technical products (16 herbicides, 22 insecticides and 14 fungicides), there were 22 products (8 herbicides, 11 insecticides and 3 fungicides) which witnessed falling prices during both 2014 and 2015, and only 7 (4 fungicides and 3 insecticides) recorded an increase in price during each year.

Additionally, of these 52 products, 36 (15 herbicides, 16 insecticides and 5 fungicides) saw a fall in price from 2013 to 2015, and 20 of them in particular (9 herbicides, 8 insecticides and 3 fungicides) showed falls of over 10%.

Take 4 major non-selective herbicides as an instance, according to Publisher's price monitoring, the average prices of glufosinate ammonium 95% technical, paraquat 42% TK, glyphosate 95% technical and diquat 40% TK all fell to varying degrees YoY in H1 2016.

Glufosinate ammonium 95% technical witnessed the most significant average price drop of all, falling by 56.96% YoY.

By June 2016, prices of diquat 40% TK and glyphosate 95% technical had either risen or fallen within a margin of 5% compared to that in Jan. 2016. Specifically, that of glyphosate dropped by 2.84% while that of diquat increased slightly by 0.88%.

The market prices of the other two products, glufosinate ammonium 95% technical and paraquat 42% TK, have continued to decline since Jan. 2016. As of June 2016, they have fallen by 24.50% and 20.30% respectively from Jan. 2016 levels.

Having been withdrawn from the Chinese market on 1 July, 2016, the market share paraquat once occupied (about 30,000-40,000 tonnes of 20% paraquat AS) is now up for grabs by other herbicides. This will influence the market prices of related products.
